TENDL-2010-ACE:        TALYS-Based Cross Section Library for Use with MCNPX

2.         NAME AND TITLE OF DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAMS

MAKXSF:   Preparer of Cross Sections distributed with the LANL MCNP code system.

3.         CONTRIBUTOR

NRG - Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group, Petten, The Netherlands.

4.         HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION

The TENDL-2010 library (TALYS-based Evaluated Nuclear Data Library), developed at NRG, was processed to the ACE format for use with Monte Carlo codes. It consists of a set of 348 neutron data files for isotopes from F-19 to Po-209, stable and long-lived nuclides, completely and consistently evaluated using the TALYS-1.0 nuclear reaction code package (NEA-1737 and PSR-548). For all isotopes and incident particles, the same methodology is applied to obtain cross sections, angular distributions, double differential data, gamma production data, isomeric production cross sections covariance information. The result is a nuclear data library with mutually consistent reaction and covariance information for all isotopes. Full information is available on ftp://ftp.nrg.eu/pub/www/talys/tendl2010/tendl2010.html .

5.         APPLICATION OF THE DATA

The TENDL-2010 library has been checked with the CHECKR, FIZCON and PSYCHE checking programs and successfully processed with NJOY-99.161 into ACE format to create this library for use in MCNP5 and MCNPX calculations. ACE files are provided for neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, helions and alpha particles.

6.         SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA

NEUTRON SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 348 isotopes, 267 stable and 81 radioactive (from F-19 to Bi-210). No fissionable elements are included. 20MeV and 200MeV files are included.

PROTON SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 344 isotopes (from F-19 to Bi-210) are evaluated for incident protons up to 200 MeV.

DEUTERON SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 336 isotopes (from F-19 to Bi-210) are evaluated for incident deuterons up to 200 MeV.

TRITON SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 339 isotopes (from F-19 to Bi-210) are evaluated for incident tritons up to 200 MeV.

HELIUM-3 SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 338 isotopes (from F-19 to Bi-210) are evaluated for incident Helium-3 up to 200 MeV.

ALPHA SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 342 isotopes (from F-19 to Bi-210) are evaluated for incident alphas up to 200 MeV.

PROTON SUBLIBRARY - A total number of 327 isotopes (from F-19 to Hg-204) are evaluated for incident gammas up to 200 MeV.

7.         DISCUSSION OF THE DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM

MAKXSF, which is distributed with MCNPX, can be used to convert MCNP Type 1 (ASCII) data to Type 2 (binary).

8.         DATA FORMAT AND COMPUTER

ASCII card images; Unix workstation, PC, or Mac (D00248MNYCP00).

9.         TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The ASCII-to-binary conversion can generally be accomplished within a few seconds, even for large data files. MCNP run times vary depending on a number of factors.
