RSICC CODE PACKAGE CCC-684

1.  NAME AND TITLE

NRCDose 2.3.8:       Code System for Evaluating Routine Radioactive Effluents from Nuclear Power Plants with Windows Interface.

2.  CONTRIBUTOR

Chesapeake Nuclear Services, Inc., Annapolis, Maryland

3.  CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran and Visual Basic; Pentium (C000684PC58606).

4.  NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

NRCDose includes the suite of NRCfs computer codes (LADTAP II, GASPAR II, and XOQDOQ) used for evaluating routine radioactive effluents from nuclear power plants with a WINDOWS interface to facilitate ease of use.  The liquid pathway dose assessments of the LADTAP II code are based on the modeling presented in NRC Regulatory Guide 1.109, Rev. 1, gCalculation of Annual Doses to Man from Routine Releases of Reactor Effluents for the Purpose of Evaluating Compliance with 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix I.h  GASPAR II, the gaseous pathway dose assessment, is also based on Regulatory Guide 1.109 modeling.  XOQDOQ, presenting the meteorological dispersion calculations, is based in the modeling of Regulatory Guide 1.111, Rev. 1, gMethods for Estimating Atmospheric Transport and Dispersion of Gaseous Effluents in Routine Releases from Light-Water-Cooled Reactors.h  The technical references for these programs are entitled: NUREG/CR-4013 gLADTAP II - Technical Reference and User Guide,h NUREG/CR-4653 gGASPAR II - Technical Reference and User Guide,h and NUREG/CR-2919 gXOQDOQ: Computer Program for the Meteorological Evaluation of Routine Effluent Releases at Nuclear Power Stations.h

The release of NRCDose 2.3.8 corrects two problems in the LADTAP module - one with BLOCK data input and another problem with usage locations for ALARA analysis. An updated user manual is also included which provides some expanded discussion of the liquid and gaseous BLOCK data functionality.

5.  METHOD OF SOLUTION

The methods used for LADTAP and GASPAR are those presented in Regulatory Guide 1.109, Rev. 1.  XOQDOQ methods are based on Regulatory guide 1.111, Rev. 1 and as further described in NUREG/CR-2919.

6.  RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

The modeling of the LADTAP and GASPAR codes based on Regulatory Guide 1.109 are for routine, normal effluents under annual average environmental conditions.  Likewise, the XOQDOQ methods are for assessing average meteorological dispersion conditions.  NRCDose should not be used for evaluating short term releases where assumptions concerning equilibrium environmental conditions may not be applicable.  It should not be used for accident dose assessment.

7.  TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Typical runtime should not exceed 5 to 10 seconds.

8.  COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

NRCDose runs on Pentium computers under the Windows operating system.

9.  COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

Microsoft Fortran Powerstation 4.0 was used to compile Fortran modules, and Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 was used to compile Visual Basic module to create the distributed Windows executables. The codes were tested under Windows XP. Source files are not included, so the codes can be run only on personal computers running Windows.
