3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION - The code treats one-dimensional advection-diffusion combined with linear sorption to calculate radionuclide migration behavior in multi-porous media with time-dependent diffusion/retardation parameters. It uses both leaching rate and solubility simultaneously to model nuclide release from a waste glass as the inner boundary condition. The program is applied to, for example, the analysis of radionuclide diffusion through the engineered barrier system or radioactive wastes disposal.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION - Finite-difference method in porous media.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM - None.
Size-adjustable.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME - The test problems Sample1 and Sample2 need about 15 seconds and 10 minutes, respectively, when a non-optimized executive module is used on HP Apollo 9000/735 with operation system HP-UX A.09.07.
Running time increases roughly in proportion to the number of radionuclide and time/spatial meshes.

NEA-1539/01:

The program RAPRAN was installed and executed in a DEC 3000 Model 300 X workstation, equipped with a Alpha architecture processor at 175 MHz, under Digital UNIX (formerly OSF/1) V3.2G (Rev. 62). The time required for execution of the two sample problems was 9.5 s (sample problem #1) and 5 mn 10.4 s (sample problem # 2)

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM - It calculates migration of radionuclides in multi-member decay chains in multi-layer porous media of various shape without restrictions of the number of radionuclide in the chains and of the number of the layers. It considers space- and time-dependent isotopic sharing of solubilities by isotope ratios in liquid and solid phases. It considers also precipitation of lower soluble daughter nuclides born by their soluble mother nuclides in the media.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS - None.
